The iPod is not the first in-car system to feature music that can’t be played on another device.
That limited availability – which also meant you could only listen to artists under contract with Columbia – was part of the problem with the option, which died at the end of the model year.

Yikes. A record player in the car doesn’t seem like a good idea to the Blattapus. But then again, it seems like they weren’t such a good idea anyway.
Not only could you not listen to the discs in any other car, but it doesn’t seem like you could even listen to anything that you bought for the car system in anything but the car system. Double yikes!
